Zürich

My last sketch in 2014. Usteristrasse 14, in Zürich, where the Latvian poet Rainis (1865-1929) lived in 1912. This is a project for an exhibition about him, to be held in Latvia in 2015.

Montpellier

Spending a long week in Montpellier, France, I thought I would have had more time to draw, but it turned out to be more difficult than expected to switch from rehearsing at the opera to sketching. I ended up with only two sketches. One of the opera house and another of the entrance of a housing complex built in 1988 by the spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, where our hotel was located.

Fribourg

Two quick sketches from Fribourg: the brand new "Pont de la Poya" and buildings in "Schiffenen", on the periphery of the city.

Basler Zeitung

This is an article published last week in the swiss newspaper Basler Zeitung. It talks about the Urban Sketchers group and my beginnings in sketching...

There wasn't a lot of sketching, this august. I actually concentrated on the making of a small children's book for my daughter's fifth birthday. The book is bilingual, as she is, french and latvian. It was nice, for once, to draw mostly from imagination, rather than drawing only from observation, as I usually do. I might eventually look for an editor, probably in Latvia. Let's see what the future brings...
